This series continued the theme of a previous project making objects for use in ritual or ceremony, whether secular or sacred.

My series of anatomical hearts was inspired by the tradition of using milagros, the symbolic charms that people offer to invoke protection, seek assistance with goals and desires, or express gratitude. I made the hearts as both wall sculptures and functional vases using slip-cast stoneware in my original plaster molds.

The form of my Ancient Vases was inspired by 5,000-year-old ornaments and small ritual objects of carved ivory. I made the series of vases with slip-cast stoneware or porcelain and hand-painted underglaze and glaze designs.
